Camps Bay Tourism Tips: Camps Bay Information
Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and, to ensure
you have the safest and most pleasant stay here, we have compiled a list of
a few handy Camps Bay tourism tips that have been passed on to us from various
happy travellers.

What to take to Cape Town
|
A small backpack for walks and trips. |
|
Summer clothes for the day and warmer clothes for the evenings, as
the evenings can cool down quite considerably. A windbreaker is advised
as the weather can change very quickly in Cape Town, and a wind off the
Atlantic can be rather icy. |
|
A good pair of walking shoes and sunglasses. |
|
Plenty of Suntan Lotion and After-Sun if you have a fair skin. The African
sun is as blissful and as cruel as it is rumoured to be. |
|
Mosquito repellent & insect bite relief cream. |
|
Plug adaptors, as South Africa has a unique plug system. Adapters for
most countries are available in some shops and supermarkets, however. |
Getting Around
We would recommend hiring your own rental car for your stay in Cape Town,
as this is a far safer option than public taxis and will cost you less overall
than private taxis. Buses do not run as regularly as some other countries and
do not always go to the more outlying and beautiful areas of the Cape that
you might have your heart set on visiting.
General Tips
|
Take pictures in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the
harsh bright light and keep your film cool. |
|
Listen to the weather report in the morning before going on an adventure
up Table Mountain, as people have been trapped on the mountain in a cloudbank
due to lack of foresight. |
Safety
Precaution rather than paranoia is the way to remain safe in Cape Town. Most
visitors to Cape Town come and go without incident. As in all other cities,
tourists are prime targets for theft. Our advice would be to keep your wits
about you and to take the usual sensible precautions to make your stay in Cape
Town enjoyable and incident-free:
|
Avoid common tourist traps such as flashing money and credit
cards around, and wearing an excessive amount of jewellery. |
|
Know where your valuables are and keep your bag strapped across your
chest and shoulder so that it hangs in front of you and can be monitored. |
 |
Don’t walk the city streets alone after dark – keep to the
busier areas and take taxi’s to get around. Walking around in the
daytime is mostly safe. |
 |
Lock all car doors at all times in the city. |
 |
Park in lit areas at night. |
 |
Don’t leave your belongings in plain view in your hired car to
tempt passers-by. Put possessions in the boot when you park (day or night),
it will only take you a couple of seconds. |
 |
Take the bare minimum of accessories to the beach. |
 |
Be careful when driving late at night, as there may be drunken drivers
on the roads. |
Your stay in Camps Bay should be a paradise if you stick to these basic precautionary
measures. For more travel information or Camps Bay tourism tips or travel information
